Re-Up Your Toolbox 🧰 🛠️

I love DIY; more importantly, I love feeling capable.

Whether the handyman is booked or you’re feeling inspired to get your hands dirty, understanding how to complete basic home projects is extremely liberating and fulfilling for me.

The few times I remember connecting with my dad were usually over a bucket of grout or a tool bench. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Barbie, but I cherished my ratcheting screwdriver set and little red toolbox just as much.

I learned early on that hiring a professional often yields the best result, but mastering basic home maintenance, undertaking small beautification projects, and being generally handy are empowering assets, especially as a woman.

Here are my go-to “must haves” (click the pics to buy)

DEWALT DCD771C2 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Compact Drill/Driver Kit with DW2166 45-Piece Screwdriving Set

Don’t leave home without it. I kid but not really. This is likely my most used tool. It’s lightweight, but it packs a punch. If you own one thing on the list - it should be this! My other favorite is the Milwaukee here.

Newborn 250 Caulk Gun

Be warned, it isn’t an no drip gun. You might want to do a quick youtube on how to release the pressure so it doesn’t, well, caulk when you don’t want it to (maybe I’ll do a tutorial). But, this is the smoothest and a true professional-grade gun. And, caulking in baseboards and millwork is the quickest way to polish a space.

ESTWING Hammer

Yes, I have a favorite hammer. This hammer is weighted perfectly and built to last. Enough said.

FatMax Tape

It just works better. Trust me.

Laser Level with Stud Finder

For hanging anything heavy, like a TV, this makes life so much easier! This one is cheap, reliable and all around decent without breaking the bank.

Socket Set

You won’t know you need this right up until you do! If you want to mount your own TV or anything heavy, this is your friend. This set is functional, has all the sizes and is super reasonably priced.

Gerber Utility Knife

If you know me, you know I don’t leave home without a knife. I end up needing a knife almost hourly. From cutting wallpaper to peeling back carpet, this is one of my favorite tools.

RYOBI Drilling and Driving Set

This set is so versatile and so inexpensive! From wood, metal, plastic, and masonry (yes this means plaster for old home owners), this set allows you to conquer any surface.

2-inch Drywall Screws

I use about a barrel of these a year. The brand doesn’t matter. Just 2” drywall screws and you’re gold. I hand most staging art with these. They hold well and are easy to use. I usually have one in my bra.

Locking Pliers with Wire Cutter

From replacing a faucet to changing a light fixture, these will make you feel like a pro.

Crescent 8" Adjustable Wrench

Of course, you need a wrench. Don’t try plumbing without it!
